Self-Rescuer Testing

The atmospheres within an underground mine can be unpredictable. Even when adhering to the strictest of safety precautions, incidents can occur, and breathable air can be diluted instantly. It’s for this reason alone that self-rescuers are vital.

The self-rescuer unit is a pocket size, robust respiratory device that provides oxygen in environments that lack oxygen or where the air is contaminated. It should be a requirement that all your underground workers carry one with them in the instance an emergency presents.

Once the unit is fitted to a person, it provides a reliable oxygen source that allows the worker to move to an appropriate area for rescuing.

Complete Envirotest is MSA (Mine Safety Appliances) approved and is an authorised service and repair agent.

We have on site facilities in Kalgoorlie, allowing us to strategically open inspect MSA self-rescuers (30/100, Savox, and SR90 models) within controlled temperatures and relatively humid environments.

Units can be repined after successful open inspections and put back into service.

We have been servicing self-rescuer units since 2005 and have a solid reputation for providing a reliable and straightforward service.

Our proven inspection process and pressure testing will give you peace of mind in knowing your equipment is of the highest standard. Our final report will include the information required to meet your regulatory requirements and will summarise serial numbers, date-of-manufacture details, and what parts were used during repairs.

The actual self-rescuer will also hold details of the unit’s service and test dates, meaning workers can confidently see that the device has been correctly maintained.

MSA self-rescuers generally have a ten-year life span, therefore servicing and maintaining your units will contribute to their longevity.

The most popular unit for Western Australian underground mining is currently the MSA 30/100 unit, with the following duration flow rates:

  • 20 min at 35 l/min (wearer at heavy workload)

  • 30 min at 30 l/min (wearer at medium workload)

  • 100 min at 10 l/min (wearer at rest, minimal workload)
